Some people describe last night's storm damage as a war zone. According to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Department, Denton and Cortland were hit the hardest from over night storms.
Severe storms, packing winds of 70 mph and perhaps higher, knocked down trees and powerlines. Several homes and cars in those two communities were damaged by falling trees. Power outages were reported in Lincoln and surrounding communities.
In Lincoln, the southern edge of town was hit the hardest. High winds knocked down some trees and we have one report of a tree falling on a home.
Heavy rain caused flash flooding near highway 2 and 14th and scattered flash flooding throughout Lincoln. Many people in southeast Nebraska were rudely awakened by the storms around 4:30 a.m. The storms packed not only strong wind but golf-ball sized hail as well. Channel 8 Eyewitness News has received damage reports between 84th and A and 84th and South. There are also damage reports in the area of 84th and Rokeby. Three miles south of 56th and Highway 2, a small community on Ricky road suffered down trees and damage to homes.
Some farmers in the region report entire fields of corn of soybeans being damaged by the high winds and hail. However, most of the damage was isolated in nature.
