Nebraska utilities are working to restore power to thousands of homes in the southeast corner of the state after as much as 8 inches of heavy, wet snow fell.
The three utilities that serve that area estimated that roughly 3,500 customers remained without electricity in a stretch from near Beatrice to Rulo on Tuesday morning. At the height of the storm, more than 6,000 customers lost power.
Crews from Norris, Omaha and Nebraska public power districts are all repairing damage. Officials say the weight of the wet snow brought down lines, poles and tree limbs.
National Weather Service observers reported 8 inches of snow fell on an area about five miles north of Falls City, and 6 inches of snow fell in Falls City and Fairbury.
