A Lincoln man is opening his heart and his restaurants to help premature babies. The Jeffers family lost their daughter last year...she was born about 4 months early. The staff at Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center did everything they could to help little Alex, and now her father wants to give back, but he needs your help to do it.
St. Elizabeth's has been treating patients in thier neo-natal intensive care unit for 35 years. They've been able to save the lives of many babies, but for the Jeffers' first child, there was nothing the nurses could do.
It will be a year ago Saturday Mackenzie Jeffers had an emergency c-section to deliver her first born daughter, named Alex. Nurses in the neo-natal unit at Saint E's say with a combination of Alex's weight, of under one and a half pounds, and complications internally, Alex was lucky to be alive for as long as she was. Alex passed away on June 30th, 40 days after she was born.
Alex's father, Toby Jeffers, says the nurses did a great job, and he wants to repay them. So as the the owner of Fox's Pizza, he's opening up his restaurants Saturday to raise money. They'll be making large pizzas all day long, and contributing 100-percent of the profits to Saint Elizabeth's neo-natal care unit. They say they hope to purchase new equipment. Saturday would have been Alex's first birthday.
