Mountain Lion Spotted In Eastern Nebraska

Officials are keeping an eye out for a mountain lion around Blair after a railroad worker reports seeing a cougar in Washington County, north of Omaha. Sheriff's deputies responded to the report, make late Tuesday night, but were unable to spot any animal resembling a mountain lion.

Sheriff's Cpl. Steve Bolton says the worker was on top a rail cars near the Cargill plant at Blair when he heard noises and saw what he thought was a cougar. Bolton says the worker described the cat as being light brown and about the size of a Labrador retriever. Deputies say there are thermal imaging and surveillance cameras at the Cargill plant, but those cameras didn't pick up signs of a big cat.

In October, two Omaha police officers and two animal control officers reported seeing a cougar in the Ponca Hills area just north of Omaha.
