2 Oklahoma schools leave Lone Star for MIAA

Associated Press - July 29, 2010 8:15 PM ET

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A pair of Division II schools in Oklahoma are leaving the Lone Star Conference to join the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

Northeastern State in Tahlequah and Central Oklahoma in Edmond announced Thursday that they plan to join the Kansas City, Mo.-based MIAA starting with the 2012-13 academic year.

The Lone Star Conference lost three other Oklahoma members earlier this month when they teamed with six Arkansas schools and proposed to start a new conference. The latest moves leave Cameron University in Lawton as the only Oklahoma school left among the 11 Lone Star members.

Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma will be joining 12 other schools from Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska in the MIAA.
