A Lincoln high school student is now in a youth corrections facility, after officials say he brought a gun with him to school.
Lincoln Police say this all happened around 11:30 Tuesday morning, when school officials caught wind that a student had a 45 caliber gun tucked into his pants.
We have learned the boy is 16-years-old.
School administrators say he was in class when police arrived at the school.
They knocked on his classroom door, asked him to step outside, and the student did so without causing any more of a problem.
Officers found the gun and a full magazine in his pocket.
Principal Michael Wortman says the school took care of the situation by following all of the policies they have in place.
"First we dealt with the issue itself to make sure things were calm and peaceful here and that we had dealt with all the facts of the situation and then how do we get the word out to staff, how do we get word out to students and how do we get word out to parents."
Students found out about the incident thanks to an all school announcement.
And parents received phone calls keeping them updated on the situation.
"The student was questioned by police and found to have an unloaded gun. He was quietly removed from the building and is now in police custody."
Dr. Wortman says the school does sometimes have to deal with reports of students carrying weapons.
Usually, those reports turn out to be false, but no matter the case, they are always investigated to make sure all students and staff are safe.
