A north platte woman has died following a serious accident involving her car and a garbage truck just south of Lincoln.
The accident happened Wednesday morning in Lancaster county.
The collision sent two people to the hospital and the intersection closed for several hours.
The Lancaster county sheriff's office responded to an injury accident a little after 8 a-m Wednesday morning at the intersection of Southwest 84th and west Van Dorn.
"When we arrived we found a 2001 International garbage truck was north bound on SW 84th and collided with a west bound 4-door Dodge Intrepid passenger car," Sgt. Andy Stebbing said.
The Sheriff's office said the driver of the car, 74 year old Artis Harper drove through the stop sign coming to a stop in the middle of the intersection where the vehicle was hit.
"Southwest fire department and rescue were here first on the scene and they did have to extricate the driver from the vehicle using the jaws of life they removed the roof and some of the doors to get her out she was pinned in the car," Sgt. Stebbing said.
Also in the car was the woman's daughter 40 year old Sherry Harper who was transported to Bryan LGH West with non-life threatening injuries.
Artis was transported by life flight and later died at the hospital.
Both woman are from North Platte.
Officials say the two men in the garbage truck didn't suffer any injuries.
The sheriff's office said they are still investigating, but the intersection of 84th and West Van Dorn is back open it had to be closed for several hours following the crash for accident reconstruction.
