Update: I-80 westbound reopened after truck accident
The westbound lanes have been reopened on I-80 west of Seward after an early morning fatal accident involving two semi-trailer trucks.
Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins says it happened just after 1 a.m. Monday. She says the two semi's were both westbound on the interstate when one rear-ended the other. Both trucks caught fire. Collins says the driver in the truck that rear ended the semi in front was trapped. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a truck driver from Missouri. His identity has not been released. He was hauling ice cream.
The driver and passenger of the first semi from New York was treated at Seward Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The westbound lanes of I-80 were shut down for most of the morning.
