The race for Ben Nelson's senate seat has a new competitor. Democrat Chuck Hassebrook is a University of Nebraska Regent and runs the non profit Center for Rural Affairs in Lyons. The Democrat will focus on making college affordable, tightening ethics rules for Congress, and investing in small businesses and farms.

"I'm running for U.S. Senate because it's time for me to step it up and do more. To fight for government not that subsidizes the rich and powerful but to fight for government that invests in our future, small businesses and new farms and ranches," Hassebrook said.

Hassebrook says although not perfect, he does support the President's healthcare reform plan.
