Have plans for a new ice rink in Lincoln gone cold... again? A lot of skaters want to know. In 2008, John Breslow donated $7 million for a new ice center, as long as it was started by the end of this year. Location and budget issues have stalled progress.
And the "ice box" is not cutting it for UNL's club hockey team. "They get to practice here Monday through Wednesday but then on Friday and Saturday even if it's a home game it's up in Fremont so you're driving no matter where you're going to go play so it's a bit of a challenge to recruit kids to come here," Joseph Nietfeldt, UNL Club Hockey coach said.
Officials said last fall they would make an announcement around the first of the year. Wednesday, city and private officials say they aren't ready to discuss any new information publicly.
