Fremont police say one woman was shot multiple times in the head before her attacker turned the gun on himself, ending his life.

Walking the streets of Fremont, many people looked stunned that something like this could happen and stunned that it happened in their own backyard.

Most days, Fremont residents say the loudest the two gets is when the train goes by. Friday, that wasn't the case. "The thing to keep in mind here, they weren't much older than kids really and for something like this to happen is terrible," said neighbor, Patrick Burke.

Police say 22-year-old Garrett Corn shot a 23-year-old woman multiple times in the head. She survived the attack and was airlifted to an Omaha hospital. After the was shot twice, the victim called 911. When Police arrived, they say Corn turned the gun on himself, and died behind a shed.

Neighbors say that up until a couple of weeks ago, the two appeared to be dating. They were seen walking the street holding hands, but it all changed.

THey said the two began arguing and after the split, and enraged corn threatened to kill her if he saw her with anyone else. The victim was so distraught she had a protection order placed against him.

Police have not yet released the victim's name but friends and family members said Friday the victim is a lovable, beautiful woman and they're praying for her well-being.
