Authorities say they won't file charges in the death of a 9-year-old boy who emigrated from Russia to Nebraska and died last month in a house fire.

Lancaster County Attorney Joe Kelly told The Associated Press before an official announcement Wednesday that investigators couldn't determine what caused the fire and didn't find evidence of criminal behavior.

Anton Fomin died of carbon monoxide and soot inhalation in the May 17 fire in Davey, near Lincoln. His death drew attention from Russian officials following several high-profile abuse cases of Russian children placed with American families.

Anton came to the United States with his biological parents before he was placed with a different family. His father died of cancer, and relatives say his mother couldn't care for him because of mental health problems. UTILITY WORKER HURT
