In just a couple of months, the newest elementary school in Lincoln will open, Kloefkorn Elementary in south Lincoln.
When it opens in August, Kloefkorn Elementary will enroll 300 students, but real soon they say they'll be teaching so many more.
On August 14th, Sue Braun imagines her room filled with children, ready to learn. The principal of Kloefkorn Elementary, near 84th and Pine Lake, is eager to welcome them.
"We want to go out into the community. We want to support the Vintage Heights neighborhood and we know they're ready to support us as well. There's lots of excitement in Vintage Heights over the new school," said Braun.
But this isn't just any welcome to the neighborhood. Braun and her Assistant Principal, Kristi Schirmer, are going out into the community, to meet families in their home and share their vision on how to brighten a child's mind.
"We'll put ourselves out there so people get the chance to see us but also so we get to see them in their most natural environment in the home," said Braun.
The school plans on doing events like these throughout the summer. They just held an ice cream social for families last week, but until that time, Braun will walk the halls of Kloefkorn, and anticipate their arrival. "To see all these wonderful people with so much energy and passion to this new community is so exciting," said Braun.
That day will come sooner than they think. They already will be at full enrollment for next year. There is opportunity to expand the building, however, and depending on circumstances that could come as soon as five years from now.
