Starting on August 29, 2012 Pippin Contemporary Fine Art Gallery is featuring five artists in a show called ‘What’s This Journey About?’ with new work inspired by the ebb and flow of nature, life and the creative process – each expressing a different perspective on their personal journey in life and in art. The gallery is featured on Santa Fe’s premier visitor guide SantaFe.com and parent company Hutton Broadcasting radio stations.
While formally and visually distinct, the artists share a nuanced exploration of visual perception and the subjective excesses it enables. This tendency exists on a wide-ranging continuum between the five artists. In their own meticulous ways, they give the viewer multiple perspectives within a single work that gradually lends itself to a perceptual moment in time.
A newcomer to the gallery and the Santa Fe art Scene - Rose Masterpol states, “The journey for me is about allowing. I paint from myself, not from an object, a clever thought, trend or gimmick. I construct and deconstruct until I unravel an abstract portrait. I paint deliberately and the outcome is unintentional—I allow the painting to become itself.”
Suzanne Wallace Mears:
Suzanne’s travels throughout Asia, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean combined with her love of discovery, history and archaeology have greatly influenced her work. "My journey is like a moth to the flame - a style that's free, organic, unstructured, colorful, bold, bursting with energy. Glass, kiln formed glass, the excitement and surprise generated in the abstraction of reality. A joyful celebration of life."
“You’re painting the canvas called your life – how do you want it to look?” exclaims Aleta Pippin. “My quote can be taken literally as painting is a great metaphor for creating your life…true to your vision. It’s also an important reminder to me that I’m creating my vision using the vehicle of abstract painting; it’s literally a world that is seen only by me until it shows itself on the canvas. It’s an emotional and imagined world, unplanned, a reaction to and with the paint, the color, and the energy I feel during the process. The result is passionate and joyful.”
“Painting is a meditation on life, in the creating as well as the viewing. I work my paintings until they emanate "I am alive!"
“Finding order out of chaos is possibly my singular hallmark. Encaustics allow me to marry a sculptural component to my painterly approach. The medium’s translucency supports my vocabulary for expressing space from the microscopic to the galactic.”
About Pippin Contemporary Fine Art Gallery:
Pippin Contemporary's artists are selected for their energetic vivid color and tactile expressions of abstract art. Our artists are committed to abstract work, creating expressions that are from the imagination, expanding the realm of possibility beyond the normal perception of what is real. The passion our artists feel about their artwork and how that passion translates creates an element of surprise.
Aleta Pippin founded Pippin Contemporary in 2011, focusing on abstract art which offers the viewer a venue through which to access their emotions and transport themselves to their interior worlds.
