Lincoln Police say a woman was attacked and nearly raped while walking home in north Lincoln early Sunday morning.
Police say she was walking alone in Oak Lake Park around three in the morning when a man approached her and asked if she was all right. When she said she was fine, police say the man grabbed her arm and pushed her to the ground.
Authorities say the man got on top of her and started pulling and ripping at her clothes. "The victim resisted. She continued to kick him until she was able to get away. She ran through the park and continued to the police station where she reported the incident," According to officer Katie Flood.
One Lincoln woman says she's not surprised this happened.
"I mean one of the reasons we don't come to this park often is usually there's nobody here and the parks we tend to go to usually there are other families that just make me feel safer," Nicole Jacobs said.
Shannon Caughy sunbathes at Oak Lake and she says its important to watch your surrounding.
"When people walk through and when I lay out, I'll get dressed and be prepared. Have some pepper spray and just keep your visual and just try to stay in the open area not close to a tree or the lake," Caughy said.
Police describe the suspect as a white male, 40 to 50 years old, approximately 5 foot 8 inches tall and weighs approximately 175 pounds. He has a shaved head with a full brown scraggily beard.
