Lincoln Police say they have arrested a 17-year-old in connection with a Sunday night shooting that killed a 19-year-old man.
17-year-old Zachary Neuberger was found in Bennet and arrested for 2nd Degree Murder in the death of Naif Al-Kazahy.
Police say a fight broke out just before midnight Sunday near 13th and Sumner. Officers say the victim and his friends were arguing with people they knew. From there, a shot was fired, hitting Al-Kazahy in the chest.
Wendy Hiatt lives next door to where it all happened. She says she was inside when the gun went off. But, on any other night she would've been sitting on her porch.
"I chose to go to bed early and knowing that happened, we could've been sitting out here and been in danger ourselves," says Hiatt.
Police believe Al–Kazahy, his brother, and some friends were walking by when they started arguing with the people who live at the address.
"They're not completely strangers. They know one another and they've had some encounters in the past where they've been involved in fights," says Lincoln Police Chief Jim Peschong.
Police say after Al–Kazahy was shot, his friends took him to 14th and Sumner, just a block away from where it all happened. From there, he was taken to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Unfortunately, he didn't make it.
Police say the SWAT team was called in to search the house, but no one was found inside.
No one else has been arrested in the case. Police still don't know what the argument was about.
