Behind every act of senseless violence are the victims left behind. One Lincoln mother says she is one of them.
While she wasn't at the scene near 13th and Sumner Sunday night when the shooting happened, she says her son was and the details he's revealed leave her wondering if he is next, or is she.
"I don't want them retaliating against me but something needs to be done before, something before somebody else gets hurt," said the mother who asked to remain anonymous.
She says it will happen because this is a gang case. Her son is part of it. She says both groups were actually one set of friends at Lincoln High.
As freshmen, she says they started the gang known as the Garland Brothers. Just over the last couple weeks, she says there's been fighting between them, arguments over changing gang rules.
"Apparent; they're not affair do go to jail or pull guns and before you know it, something else like this is going to happen and some sort of retaliation is going to happen. I'm sure of it," she said.
Her son may not even be able to warn her. She says he didn't know going in that night, but once the fight was underway and weapons were pulled, that Zachary Neuberger was actually ordered to shoot.
"Brass knuckles were used, a baseball bat was used, a gun was used and orders were given. Why is that kid the only one locked up? They all need to be locked up."
It's her plea to police, and her warning to the public, Lincoln, she says, is still not safe.
The teen arrested, Zachary Neuberger, will be in court this Friday. He's expected to be charged with second degree murder.
