Lincoln Police say the man refused to come down from a roof for more than nine hours.
Police say the standoff between 28-year-old Damien Brown and Lincoln Police started after they saw him with a gun. Later, officers say they realized it was a toy gun.
It began Thursday afternoon at around 3:30 p.m. and ended at around 1 a.m. Friday when Brown climbed down from the roof.
Thursday afternoon, police say they saw Brown lean out of a window with a gun trying to fire it at officers on the ground. The man then climbed out onto his roof carrying a knife and a screw driver. During the night, Brown jumped over to a neighbor's roof where he stayed until the SWAT team talked him down.
Police say he suffered a self–inflicted wound to his arm. Brown's family says the he has a history of schizophrenia. He was taken to jail for trespassing, obstructing government operations, terroristic threats and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
