They actually set up a table in the middle of a field. This picturesque dinner setting helped diners learn more about local farming.
The rolling hills of the country are usually pretty quiet, but today, Branched Oak farm hosted almost a hundred people for dinner.
Outstanding In The Field is a group that travels to different farms, vineyards and venues across the country to host a dinner and teach people in the area about where their food is coming from.
Leah Scafe with Outstanding in the Field says, "he wanted to find a way to sort of create a stage for the farmers to really share their story."
Each stop features creations from an area chef. This time, it was a chef from an Omaha restaurant.
The group brought everything needed to make a restaurant, literally anywhere, "it's sort of like a pop–up restaurant in the field."
The chef just had to supply the food and just about all of it is local. But this adventure wasn't a cheap night out...one ticket is 180 dollars.
For people like Todd Rivers, the experience is worth the pretty penny. "having high quality food and learning out to prepare it and making sure you have the opportunity to share it with people."
Rivers says he's also a local producer and he knows how important it is for farms to get the word out about locally grown food.
And that's what the night was all about. The guests toured the cheese farm and walked out to the field where everyone, from the farmers to the chef to the guests, shared a table.
There are 85 events this summer, this was the first time ever in Nebraska.
The group says they're happy about the outcome and will definitely be back.
