The U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts that Nebraska's drought-stunted corn crop will plunge 13 percent below last year's production and be the smallest crop since 2006.

The crop is forecast at 1.34 billion bushels, based on Aug. 1 conditions. A USDA report released Friday says the 9.1 million acres to be harvested for grain is down 5 percent from a year ago.

Yield is forecast at 147 bushels an acre, which would be the lowest figure since 2003.

Soybean production is forecast at 215 million bushels, which would be the lowest figure since 2007. The 5 million acres to be harvested is up 4 percent from 2011.

Soybean yield is forecast at 43 bushels an acre, which would be the lowest figure since 2003.
