Roundabout opening delayed

One lane in the roundabout has been open for a few weeks now. The other lanes were postponed until Monday night leaving some residents in the area even more upset with the idea of the new kind of intersection.

It's been about six months of the orange cones and construction crews at 14th and Superior.

"For as long as they've been working on it, it should have been open both lanes both directions instead of having barrels out," said Lincoln resident, Alice Hughes.

Finally, Monday evening, the city's first multi-lane roundabout opened. The city originally expected the lanes to open Monday after the morning commute but it ended up taking longer. Some people say they were not surprised about the delay.

"I think it's typical. I knew it was going to take time, it always takes a little time for this stuff," said Elena Lovorn of Lincoln.

Even now that traffic is taking off through the three-lane intersection, mixed reviews are coming in on whether it really is the right way to get around.

"I hope it goes quicker and doesn't slow me down," said one resident. "I think it's going to be trouble and that during football season we'll have a lot of accidents and people from out of town won't be used to it and I think they're going to have a problem."

Another roundabout in north Lincoln, at 14th and Alvo also opened today for all parents driving the kids to school Tuesday.
