Some city officials are calling it an unhappy day to be a Lincoln Police Officer.
Police are now going around knocking on doors, handing out tickets, not warnings, to those watering their lawns when they shouldn't be.
Monday is a no watering day for all residents. For Gerald Filbert, the knock on his door was a really big surprise.
"I've been gone for almost two weeks and I didn't know that they had a restriction. As of Monday, I was told, but we weren't here," said Filbert.
So far police say they've responded to more than 150 calls, dozens of which have resulted in a ticket.
Along with that ticket, you're given a court date that you must show up to. Police say it'll then be up to a judge on whether or not you'll pay a fine and if so, how much it will be.
"You know, we've had some unhappy customers today, so the few people that we've dealt with that have not been very pleasant, they have only themselves to blame unfortunately," said Public Safety Director, Tom Casady.
Officials say they really don't want to hand out tickets because it creates more work for police and they hope those who break the rules get the message. For those who've merely run into some bad luck, hopefully there will be a resolution.
"I will have to see whether I'm going to get fined. SHe said she would talk to the County Attorney because of the circumstances that we had. I will just have to see what happens," said Filbert.
City officials are expected to meet again later this week to discuss the water usage. It's possible even harsher restrictions could be coming.
