If you've been around campus lately, you've probably noticed the massive east stadium expansion, and university officials have a few tips to help you navigate game day a little easier.
Students are back on campus for the fall semester and we all know what that means. In just a matter of days, Husker fans will flood a growing Memorial Stadium to cheer on the scarlet and creme.
Until then, Butch Hug and his staff are working to get things ready. "There's always a little confusion the first game where people are trying to find their gates again and becoming familiar with the area," said Associate Athletic Director, Hug.
That confusion will likely come from east stadium, where a massive expansion is taking place. Have a seat there? Here's what you'll need to do. There will be three gates open, 16, 20 and 24. From there, you can go to the gate on your ticket and on to your seat.
Students will enter at gates 23 and 24, and if you tailgate in the east parking lot, there's no need to come 12 hours early. "We'll open the lot gates six hours prior to kickoff so people can come in. They do have a reserved stall, they can still get setup. They can still tailgate and do all the things they did there," said Hug.
And what if you use StarTran or another bus service? They'll still be running, but instead of dropping you off inside the horseshoe, they'll drop passengers off at 12th and 'R' St. near the Lied Center. Even if you're not affected by all of this, Hug says it's still a good idea to plan ahead.
"Be prepared. Our staff has been working very hard all summer long to make whatever adjustments we have so that we have, again, a safe environment for everyone coming to the game and so everyone can have a great game day experience," said Hug.
Construction on east stadium will continue through the football season, and at this time next year, it'll all be done. Roughtly 4,000 more fans can pile in to cheer on the Huskers.
