Nope, it's not just you. That record high fuel bill you're bringing back from your final three-day summer getaway, everyone is experiencing it.
"I think you notice it more if you're planning a big trip, a road trip where you're at the pump more often," said Jeremie Memming of Lincoln.
This August set the September holiday up to be the most costly one for fueling up, ever. The national price of gas jumped 9.4 percent last month. It was the biggest percentage gain in more than three years. Right now, a gallon, about $3.79 in Lincoln.
"I didn't really notice but I switched cars. It's a smaller one and more fuel efficient," said Aaron Zabawa of Lincoln.
Luckily for anyone still driving the gas guzzler, there's hope on the gas price horizon as the holiday weekend wraps up. The cost of fuel is expected to decline from not until December. Thanks in large part to the lack of severe damage done by Hurricane Issac.
Also, a renewed confidence in the European sovereign debt crisis. Though, experts warn the national average will still sit above the $3 mark, which for some mean it's not worth the hype.
The national average for gas prices predicted by December is $3.25.
