How important is a bike helmet? Just ask a Lincoln 3rd grader. Hailey Anderson goes to Kloefkorn elementary. A bike helmet most likely saved her life. She was in an accident last month. Shortly after, she applied for a grant to share the importance of helmets with her classmates, and she got it!! For $400. She tells people about her experience.
"I was going downhill and hit front break first and I flipped over my bike and hit face first and ended up with seven stitches," Anderson says.
Her bike helmet cracked down the middle from the impact of her head hitting the ground. She says she noticed some kids not wearing helmets when riding their bikes around the neighborhood, so she wanted to do something about it.
"I know how important it was and I wanted other people to know," Anderson says.
Anderson used the money from the grant to buy 50 helmets for her classmates. Thirty additional helmets were donated by the Cornhusker Motor Club Foundation. Scheels also donated gift cards to Hailey for her to give to students to reward them for always wear a bike helmet.
