Women and men put on their high heels to race for a good cause this morning.
Lincoln Junior League held their first annual High Heel Relay Race today at Southpointe mall.
All the racers, including the men wore high heels and competed to take home the heel trophy. Men and women from all around Lincoln came to the race dressed to impress. But the attention was focused on their feet. Each relay team of four people all wore high heels during the race. Team Applebee's says, "it was a lot of fun! big adrenaline rush...yeah it was a big adrenaline rush." "oh amazing. Awesome! it's my first trophy."
Junior League focuses on empowering women and children. This year they're working with six different clubs in the community. Boys and girl's club, Matt Talbot kitchen and Ceders are just a few of them here in town.
This is the first high heeled race and many people turned out for the event. Liz Shotkoski says, "everyone paid money to participate in this fun high heeled relay dash. All of them had high heels on the whole entire time and the money went to the junior league."
The finale of the event was a celebrity 50 yard dash. Local celebs including two of our own competed in the race...Erika Summers and Sean McMullen were among the group. Sean learned that heels are more difficult to wear then they look when he took a tumble during the sprint.
Star's hockey player Zach Aston–Reese won it all and took home the high heeled trophy. "I think the most exciting was actually seeing the men on the high heels! I mean it was fun to see all of the ladies here dressed up having a good time and talking strategy...but it was the men who were the most competitive and the fastest. It was just great to see them out there and have heels on their feet."
The money raised will go to the six different programs. They said today's high heeled dash was a success and they're looking forward to having more people race next year.
