Family Searches for Missing Dad

A tip to police has the family of the missing California man, Charlie Dowd, in Lincoln tonight.

From San Francisco to Chicago, it was an Amtrak adventure that was supposed to take 69–year–old Charlie Dowd to his son. Instead, his family is now fanning out across several states, including Nebraska, for him.

"The train trip, it was an adventure," daughter Jen Dowd says. "he was really excited about the trip. This is a shocking, shocking turn of events."

Just before 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, a half a day after Charlie was last heard from, Jen received a phone call from police.

"I got a call on Friday from Amtrak police saying that his bags have arrived in chicago and his cell phone and medications, but there were no signs of him in his sleeper car."

Jen says Amtrak police remember seeing Charlie, disoriented at one point, and perhaps the last time...in Omaha.

Lincoln police received a tip Monday evening of a man fitting the description near 66th and Havelock. They say they checked, but so far no luck.

The tip was 24 hours old at the time.

Still, it's brought Jen and others to the area, scouring the city for the man she always turned to in tough times like this.

If he was disoriented and wandered off, he could have fallen and he could be on the side of the tracks somewhere."

Charles Dowd:

Age: 69
Sex: Male
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Gray
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 175
