A very exciting new addition to the Capitol Humane Society is in the works. The new shelter is expected to open next year.
"Should have it open to the public in mid May and we're just...we're excited about it, we're looking forward to it. It'll do wonders for our adoption program and help a lot more cats and dogs find their forever homes." said Bob Downey of the Capitol Human Society.
The shelter that will be in south Lincoln will be where adoptions take place, they hope it will be a more inviting atmosphere for people who want a new pet. "It will be a very warm and inviting, attractive facility that's conducive to people being able to interact quietly with animals and get a good idea of how they'll behave." said Downey.
And now the Petco Foundation is offering a chance for the humane society to win 10,000 that they will use towards the new facility. It's a Facebook contest and all you have to do is vote on the petco foundation page. The top 10 shelters with the most votes wins 10,000 dollars.
"It's an easy way and in away you're donating to us if you help us win that 10,000 dollars and not everybody can afford to donate to a non–profit organization but in a way this is donating to the organization by helping us get in the top 10."
Voting on facebook goes until October 4th and you can vote once a day until then. Capitol Humane society is the only shelter in the region that got picked for votes!
