The charges were filed following the death of a long-time Ashland police officer.

On Tuesday, the Sarpy County Attorney's office charged 23-year-old Shawn Stryker with motor vehicular homicide in the August 7th death of 58-year-old Daniel Ottis.

Authorities say Stryker's pickup slammed into the back of a stopped pickup.  That pickup hit Ottis' motorcycle head-on.  Ottis was riding his motorcyle off-duty.

The Nebraska State Patrol says there were no tire marks indicating Stryker's vehicle was braking and they were looking into whether he was using his cellphone at the time of the crash.

Ottis was a 10-year veteran of the Ashland Police Department.  He had spend another 25 years in law enforcement in eastern Nebraska.
