The Cass Co. Sheriff says the accident happened at the Martin Marietta mine near Weeping Water.

It happened Wednesday morning.  Sheriff William Brueggemann says 52-year-old Darold Abbott, Jr. of rural Ashland was killed in the accident.  The sheriff says Abbott was found trapped under a forklift.  He was operating the forklift carrying an empty trash dumpster downhill towards the entrance to the mine.  The sheriff says Abbott lost control of the forklift, continued downhill and struck a concrete base and rolled pinning Abbott.

Mine Safety & Health Administration is handling the accident investigation.
