The Lincoln facility makes over-the-counter products such as Excedrin, Gas-X, Triaminic, and Theraflu.

Pharmaceutical company Novartis says it's not yet ready to resume production at its Lincoln facility.

The plant is unlikely to ship over-the-counter drugs before the year's end. The company said their product, Excedrin, has started hitting shelves already.  The company says it's being made at a third-party sites.

Novartis issued the following statement:

"Manufacturing drugs, whether they are available over the counter or by prescription, is a complex process. In addition to validating manufacturing processes raised in FDA inspections, we have decided to review and validate all of the processes associated with the manufacturing of our products in Lincoln to ensure they adhere to a high standard of quality. This is taking longer than originally anticipated. However, we believe it is the right thing to do for consumers and customers who rely on our products.

In parallel, we're also engaging third-party manufacturers to bolster supply of OTC products, which will help us meet customer and consumer demands. Select Excedrin, Lamisil AT and Triaminic products have already been produced and shipped to retailers in the US."

Novartis shut down production at the Lincoln facility last year after numerous quality-control problems were discovered during federal inspections.  Excedrin products began disappearing from store shelves soon after the shut down.
