The Speaker of the Legislature says he's running for Nebraska governor and plans to emphasize for voters that he's a budget-minded veteran lawmaker.
The Republican officially declared his candidacy Monday night in Norfolk, his hometown. Flood is the second declared GOP candidate to enter the 2014 race. Gov. Dave Heineman can't seek re-election because of term limits, and he's already endorsed Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy.
Other possible GOP candidates include State Senator Charlie Janssen of Fremont, Attorney General Jon Bruning and State Treasurer Don Stenberg. Bruning and Stenberg both recently lost May's primary to U.S. Senator-Elect Deb Fischer.
No Democrat has announced their intention yet, but one of the most popular names being thrown around is Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler.
