Lincoln police say 49-year-old Daniel Everhart was killed in Friday's accident involving a semi and a car. The driver of the semi, 60-year-old James Smith of Augusta, Georgia, was arrested for misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide.
Everhart's wife, Teri, remains in the hospital. She suffered non-life threatening injuries.
It happened at around 1:30 Friday afternoon. Emergency crews were called to reports of a car under a semi on NW 48th near I-80. The Everharts were trapped inside. Both were taken to the Bryan West Campus.
Authorities at the scene say the semi was northbound on NW 48th attempting to turn left onto the I-80 west exit. The car, a Buick LeSabre, was headed southbound on NW 48th. The driver of the semi was not injured. Investigators say Smith failed to yield to the Buick driven by Daniel Everhart, warranting his arrest and the charge.
Police reopened NW 48th St. just before 5:30 p.m.
