Senator Deb Fischer sworn into office

Nebraska's first female Senator since 1954, as Deb Fischer took the oath of office in Washington D.C. Senator Fischer was joined by Senator Mike Johanns as she recited the oath, led by Vice President Joe Biden.  

Fischer beat former Senator Bob Kerrey in November's General Election after winning the Republican primary in May over Attorney General Jon Bruning and State Treasurer Don Stenberg.  

Fischer previously served as State Senator in the Nebraska Unicameral for eight years.  Fisher is among a record breaking number of women serving in Congress.  She is one of 20 female senators.

    Police say another of the 79 firearms stolen from Scheel's in 2007 has turned up in another state. Public Safety Director, Tom Casady, says, that police in Sioux City, Iowa, found a handgun among several other guns in a home where they believe a 26-year-old man was fatally wounded on January 10th. Casady says 55 have now been recoved in several state and even Mexico.
