OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Authorities say they are investigating the death of a 10-year-old boy who collapsed at his home on the west side of Omaha after exhibiting flu-like symptoms. Douglas County Chief Deputy Sheriff Martin Belik says Sydney Kola was pronounced dead Friday morning at an Omaha hospital. Hours earlier, the boy's mother called 911 early Friday, saying Sydney was sick and had collapsed. Medics who were dispatched found the boy unresponsive.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Saturday. Belik says Sydney was a Kenyan national who had been in the United States about 7 months to live with his mother, who has been a U.S. resident for several years. Sydney was a student at Omaha's King Science and Technology Magnet Center.
The Lincoln/Lancaster County Health Department reported earlier this week that a young boy and a man in 60's died from the flu.
