Police say the man found at Legacy Estates Monday morning was retired Judge William Blue. An autopsy is being performed Tuesday to determine the cause of death.
Blue had served as a Lancaster County District Court judge for 25 years. He was 86 years old. A source told Channel 8 that Blue took care of the fish in the pond at Legacy Estates.
Shortly before 9:00 a.m. Monday morning, Lincoln police were called to the Legacy Estates retirement community near 70th and Van Dorn on report of a body found partially submerged in a nearby pond.
"He is not in their assisted care facility which means that he is only a resident. He could come and go as he pleases. It would not be uncommon for him to take a walk," said Officer Katie Flood.
At this point, police are still trying to determine what he may have been doing that caused him to end up in the water. Whatever the cause, they don't believe he fell victim to foul play.
"We do not know the cause of death. He could've fallen or had a medical episode prior to going into the water," said Flood.
