Trial date set for Alfonzo Dennard

A jury trial has been tentatively set for February 11 for Alfonzo Dennard, a former Husker and currently a cornerback for the New England Patriots. The date clears the NFL season, including the Superbowl to be played Feb. 3. Dennard is charged with 3rd degree assault, 3rd degree assault on an officer, and resisting arrest.

The incident happened on April 21, just days before the NFL draft. Lincoln police say Dennard was fighting another man outside a downtown Lincoln bar. When officers arrived, police say Dennard pushed and then punched one officer in the face.

The Lancaster County District Court says Dennard's been advised to stay nearby in case the trial date is rescheduled.
