Two day professional development series focuses on literacy and hiring.
Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) January 22, 2013
Building Excellent Schools (BES) kicks off the new year with the first of four professional development trainings, Weekend Warriors. On February 15th and 16th, teachers, deans, curriculum instructors and charter school leaders will travel to Los Angeles, California to hone their skills in hiring and in literacy.
The two day training begins with a study and analysis of two high performing BES schools: Endeavor College Prep and Equitas Academy. Participants have access to classroom visits and a question and answer session with school leaders. Saturday includes a full day of high intensity training focused on improving literacy in elementary and middle school students. The training will also emphasize finding, hiring, and keeping the best talent. Each person will have the opportunity attend sessions led by charter school leaders.
Eileen Callahan, Director of Academics at Building Excellent Schools, remarks on what participants can expect from Weekend Warriors, “Our goal is to provide attendees with the necessary skills they need to return to the classroom on Monday ready to implement concrete practices that drive student achievement.”
Weekend Warriors is open to school leaders, teachers, and other department heads interested in sharpening their skills and exchanging best practices with individuals from top performing charter schools. Registration is open, however, spots are limited. Please register by end of day Thursday, January 28th.

Building Excellent Schools (BES) (buildingexcellentschools.org) is a trailblazing nonprofit that raises the quality of urban charter schools by supporting entrepreneurial individuals to design, found, lead, and sustain excellent schools in underserved communities nationwide. The flagship BES program is the BES Fellowship—a rigorous, yearlong, comprehensive training program in urban charter school creation and leadership. In both starting a school (the BES Fellowship) and sustaining a school (Connect to Excellence from BES, BES Emerging Leaders, and the BES Excellent Schools Network), BES holds the core belief that academic performance drives every element of a school, including design, leadership, culture, decisions, and governance.
