Doane College, coming off another banner year, has been choosen by the conference baseball coaches as the favorites to win the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in 2013. If the Tigers can claim the regular season title, they would be the first to win the GPAC title in three consecutive years.
The Tigers went 36-21 overall and 16-4 in the GPAC. Returning for the Tigers are six position starters and eight pitchers from the varsity squad. Doane led the GPAC in pitching last season with a 3.64 earned run average while holding opponents to a .243 batting average.
Pitchers Nathan Roth and Tim Carlson earned First Team All-GPAC honors last year. Pitcher Elliott Engle, third baseman Ethan Schroeder and outfield Thomas Albert received Second Team All-GPAC honors. Earning honorable mention were designated hitter Andres Rivera and relief pitcher Brandon Stennis.
The Tigers open their season this weekend, February 2-3, in Oklahoma City. Doane will open with Culver-Stockton College on Saturday, followed with a match-up against NAIA No. 4 Oklahoma City in the second game of the day for both teams. The Tigers will have the same schedule for Sunday afternoon.

(GPAC Release) Doane with 96 points and seven first place votes is the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) baseball coaches' choice to win the 2013 league title. The Tigers, who won the GPAC regular season last spring, posted a 36-21 record in 2012 (16-4 in the GPAC). Mount Marty won the GPAC Tournament in Lincoln, NE and joined Doane in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. Doane advanced to the championship game at the Marian, Indiana, NAIA Opening Round site (vs. Point Park).
The GPAC baseball season will consist of 20 games (11 doubleheaders) and conclude with the GPAC Postseason Tournament on May 2-4 in Hastings, Nebraska.
Points were assigned on a 10-1 basis and coaches' could not vote for their own team.
