Lincoln police report Wednesday's snow caused 82 car accidents. A normal day without snow turns up about 20 accidents.
Snow plowing crews continue to clear Lincoln's roads Thursday morning. Public Works officials report crews are done plowing main and residential streets. It's the ice that's their main concern now.
About 19 crews are spreading material and salt all Thursday morning to break up the ice on the roads. They will start laying down sand to help rush hour traffic. They are focusing on the arterial streets.
Crews are also out in the Haymarket and downtown area with snow blowers clearing the sidewalks there.
The snow removal district parking ban is scheduled to be in effect again from 12:01 to 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday. In these districts, snow is plowed into windrows, loaded into trucks and hauled out of the area. To assist with this operation, parking is prohibited on both sides of the street in the districts. You'll find a map of the snow removal districts which are primarily in the downtown area at lincoln.ne.gov.
