According to court documents, on January 8th, 2013, a Pennsylvania resident filed a lawsuit in Texas Northern District Court (case no. 3:2013cv00104) alleging he suffered serious complications from his DePuy hip implant. In the lawsuit plaintiff claims he received a DePuy implant in his left hip in September 2006. After surgery, he allegedly experienced severe pain and there were indications of potential metallosis and other complications from the implant. His lawsuit joins the DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., Pinnacle Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation (MDL 2244, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas).
As the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation reported, on January 14th 2013, there were 3,040 actions pending in the DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., Pinnacle Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation and 7,200 actions pending in the DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., ASR Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation (MDL 2197). In August 2010, Johnson & Johnson announced that its subsidiary DePuy recalled the ASR hip replacements.
