29-year-old Kayla Shoestring is now listed in fair condition at Bryan West in Lincoln. She rescued her son from a dog attack in Grand Island on Monday. Shoestring has suffered wounds to her forearms.
Her 4-year-old son, Hayden, is in good condition at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Central Nebraska Humane Society Executive Director Laurie Dethloff says the Shoestrings were visiting a Grand Island home on Monday when the boy went into the backyard with a male and female pit bull.
Hayden began screaming when the male attacked him. Kayla Shoestring ran outside and got Hayden away from the male dog, but the dog then attacked her as she went to a neighbor's house for help. The Humane Society says the female dog never joined the attacks.
The dogs' owner has decided to have the male dog euthanized.
