In lieu of Senator Johann's announcement, many names have come up as a possible replacements, including Governor Heineman, who says he'll think about it.
"Thinking does not mean I'm running," the Governor said Monday.
During a news conference on Monday, the Governor said he'd be interested in looking into the position, but has a lot to think about before any decisions are made.
Jeff Fortenberry announced in a statement that he will also consider running, but there is a lot that needs to be thought about before making a decision.
The Nebraska Republican Party is throwing around a few other names.
"Attorney General Jon Bruning who came very close last time—someone with high name ID, did a great job at Attorney General, he may take a look at it," Chair Mark Fahleson said.
Another name that came up was State Treasurer Don Stenberg's, who has run multiple times for a seat in the US Senate, but has never been successful.
