The struggle with alcohol use in Whiteclay is getting attention at the Capitol.
Senator Al Davis introduced a bill that would increase beer tax by 5 cents per gallon. The money would go to the State Patrol and county law enforcement agencies to help fight alcohol-related crimes.
Opponents to the bill said it would hurt local breweries and ultimately be transferred to the consumer. Nebraska's current tax on beer is higher than all bordering states.
