The Nebraska Community Blood Bank and Russ's Market have teamed up.
Pints for Pounds kicked off Wednesday morning at the Blood Bank. For every pint of blood donated by the community, Russ's will donate a pound of food to the Lincoln Food Bank.
The goal is to collect 2,000 pounds of food or 2,000 blood donations. The event is in its seventh year.
"It's a fun activity because it doubles the donations of what donors do. They are making an impact in our community everyday when they donate blood, but in addition they're helping the food bank so we're saying double your donation double your impact," Director of Communications Joyce Halverson said.
Even if you can't donate blood, you can bring a food donation to the blood bank until March 23. Of course, any type of blood is welcome, but they're always extra happy when someone with O negative donates.. It's the universal blood type.
