Huskers Climb to Eighth in Arizona

The Nebraska men's golf team is in eighth place after shooting a season-best 282 in the second round of the Denver Desert Shootout on Friday.

 

In Thursday's opening round the Huskers produced 285, which gives them a 567 total through 36 holes. NU trails team leader BYU by eight strokes with 18 holes to play. Wichita State's Hunter Sparks holds the individual lead at 132 through two rounds.

 

Junior Matt Record fired a 3-under-par 68 in the second round for his best 18-hole score of the season. Record added a 72 in Thursday's first round for a 140 total. He is tied for 11th after 36 holes.

 

Two Huskers are tied for 13th at 141 strokes through two rounds. Freshman Kolton Lapa is one of those after posting a 1-under-par 70 on Friday. Senior Neil Dufford achieved the 141 total with a second-round 72. On Thursday, he carded 69 and Lapa paced his way to an even-par 71.

 

Jordan Reinertson matched his first-round 73 in the second round on Friday for a 36-hole total of 146. He is tied for 51st at Palm Valley Golf Course, a par-72, 6,925-yard layout.

 

Junior Manuel Lavin is tied for 70th after two rounds. Lavin followed up Thursday's 77 with a second-round 72 on Friday. His 149 total is two strokes ahead of Kevin Gillick, who is playing as an individual. Gillick produced a 2-over-par 73 on Friday after Thursday's 78.

 

The final round of the Denver Desert Shootout begins on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (CT) with a shotgun start.
