Nebraska game officials investigate deer shootings

Posted: Updated:

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) _ Officials with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission are investigating the shooting of three deer northwest of Indianola in southwest Nebraska.

The North Platte Telegraph reports (http://bit.ly/X4KkLs) that a conservation officer came upon three mule deer that had been shot and left in rural Red Willow County on March 23. The commission believes that the shootings happened between March 20 and March 22. One of the deer was alive when the conservation officer found it.

Outside of the fall deer hunting seasons, it is illegal to shoot mule deer in Nebraska. The penalty for illegally shooting a mule deer is $1,500.

The commission is seeking the public's help in finding the shooter or shooters. Those with information can leave it anonymously by calling 1-800-742-7627.
