Lincoln police say the scam involved recruiting transients to cash checks.  Police say 22-year-old Derrick Andrews, of Georgia, has been arrested in connection with a scheme called "Operation Homeless."

Back in January, three transients were arrested and charged with cashing fake checks.  Police say Andrews gave the men some money, Mcdonald's, and a hotel room for cashing the checks.

The scheme popped up again in March involving three more transients.

"Derrick Andrews was located on a traffic stop. He was positively identified by the transients involved. We were also able to recover surveillance from those McDonald's and confirmed it was Derrick Andrews," Officer Katie Flood said.

Police say there are possibly two other people involved in the scheme. They report more than 20–thousand dollars have been lost.
