Lincoln police say John Porter turned himself in Wednesday morning.

Police say Porter, 46, turned himself in at 10:00am.  He was cited and lodged at the Lancaster County Jail for felony Theft by Deception.

The Southeast Rural Fire Chief was fired after allegations of taking money. Porter had been the Chief at Southeast for three years, but was recently fired. The Southeast Rural Board, which overseas the fire department, says Porter is accused of misappropriation of funds.

We talked to Board President Rick Whiting, he says it's in the thousands of dollars. He says the board found a discrepancy and notified law enforcement in early February.

Whiting says it's been a trying time for the department and it's never easy turning in one of your own.  Porter has been with Southeast Rural Fire since 2001.
