32-year-old Pedro Renteria was arrested Thursday. Police say this is not his first run-in with the law. Police say Renteria has been in trouble for domestic assault before, and spent a year in jail for it. Now he faces felony charges.
It happened near 18th and J Streets Thursday afternoon. Lincoln police say a 34-year-old woman got into an argument with her live-in boyfriend, Renteria, over car keys.
"He was intoxicated and she refused to give him keys to the vehicle," Officer Katie Flood said.
Officers say he pulled out a knife and slashed the woman's clothing ten times. They say Renteria didn't cut skin, but his girlfriend was injured when he punched her in the head.
The argument moved outside. Witnesses say when police arrived, Renteria charged the car pounding so hard on the window they thought he was going to break it.
Police say he went after two officers with the knife slashing just three inches from one officer's chest.
"The officer was able to deploy his tazer. The other officer also deployed his tazer. Both had no effect on Pedro," Flood said.
Police say Renteria tried to run, but officers quckly caught and arrested him.
He faces multiple felony charges including several attempted assaults, and resisting arrest.
